Apple tampak nya ingin mengulangi kesuksesan iPad terdahulu dengan meluncurkan pembaharu nya, iPad 2. Dengan desain yang lebih slim, yaitu hanya 8.8 mm dan dengan rounded bevel, membuat iPad 2 tambah nyaman dipegang. Apalagi Apple berhasil mengurangi berat nya hanya menjadi sekitar 600 gram. Kali ini juga permukaan belakang iPad 2 benar-benar datar dibandingkan dengan iPad terdahulu.
Selain itu, iPad 2 juga dilengkapi dengan prosesor dual-core A5 chip dan GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) yang diklaim 9x lebih cepat daripada iPad generasi pertama. Layar iPad 2 sudah mengusung LED-backlit dengan IPS technology yang diklaim bisa membuat layar lebih cerah dan sudut pandang yang luas.
iPad 2 juga sudah dilengkapi software FaceTime layaknya iPhone 4, yaitu untuk melakukan panggilan video call via Wi-Fi. Dengan kamera depan yg mempunyai resolusi 0,3 megapiksel dan kamera belakang 0.7 megapiksel, sebenarnya sudah cukup untuk video-calling. Tapi dibandingkan dengan Samsung Galaxy Tab dan Motorola Xoom yang kamera nya 5 megapiksel, tentu kamera iPad 2 terlihat seperti tidak ada apa-apanya dibandingkan para kompetitornya.
Apple juga sudah menyaipkan accesories khusus untuk iPad 2 yang diberi nama Smart Cover. Smart Cover ini berguna untuk melindungi layar dari goresan dan menempel memakai magnet. Selain digunakan sebagai pelinsung juga bisa digunakan sebagai dock mini. Apple menyediakan 10 macam warna. Sebuah ide yang cukup inovatif.
